....And the risk we experience when we tell our stories truly is the risk of change: the risk that we will be changed by the telling and the risk our audience similarly experiences, that they will be changed by the hearing. In some traditions, this kind of truth telling is called witnessing. In others, it is called fiction or poetry. Living these poems has changed me, and I offer them to the reader with that warning.
Judith McDaniel is a writer, poet, teacher and activist. She makes her home in Tucson, and is currently working in Philadelphia with American Friends Service Committee as Director of the Peace Unit. Taking risks has been a continual presence in her life, whether she is climbing mountains or rafting rivers, listening to stories of courage and hardship in foreign places, or writing the truth as she sees it.
