A very scarce collection of extracts from the "Ibis Magazine', or the monthly journal of the Prudential Clerk's Society, compiled by Godfrey Young. The first edition. Bound in a half morocco with cloth to the boards. Very scarce work. This collection of extracts were originally published in the "Ibis Magazine", the monthly journal of the Prudential Clerks Society, an insurance company based in Holborn, London, in the early twentieth century. Despite being a serious insurance office, the clerks started their own organisation for extra-curricular activities known as the 'Prudential Clerks Society', later becoming 'The Ibis'. The editor, Godfrey Young, claims the extracts in this collection were provided by 'Rufus', with some additional humorous verses and an account of a retirement work dinner from 1897 presented by another contributor. Illustrated with eight plates and a frontispiece. Collated, complete. Bound in a half morocco with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, with slight rubbing to the joints and extremities. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, with some loss to the tail. Fading to the rear board. Slight age toning and the odd mark to endpapers, with handling marks to the fore edge.
