Folio. This history covers the years A.H. 1071 to 1134 (1660-1722 C.E.). It is the fourteenth work printed by Ibrahim Müteferrika, first printer of moveable Arabic type under Islamic patronage and authority, He was "müteferrika" (house steward) to Sultan Ahmed III. Published at the beginning of Dhu al-Hiija 1153 [1741]. This set includes the continuation Tarih-i Çelebizade (covering the years 1721-1728), sometimes bound separately. The book is printed on highly sized and polished European (French) paper. Bound into the end of the first volume of this work is a specimen leaf of the very rare paper from the first modern Ottoman paper mill at Yalova, established in the 1740s and producing for only a few years. The watermark is of a star and moon and a stylized minaret and the text "Yalaqabad Sannat 1158" (in this example, the final dal and 11 have been trimmed away; the leaf is stained at edge). This watermark is the first watermark used in the Islamic world; and has until now been reported by only one scholar, Nigar Anafarta, who likely identified it in this set of Tarih-i Ra?it.
