First edition. Navy blue cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black (also seen in green, priority, if any, undetermined). ix+ 307 pp. with index and list of illustrations at rear+ 12 page publisher's catalogue at rear. Illustrated with 100 engravings as well as decorated chapter headers. A tight, generally fine example, previosu ownership signature and place dated March 1, 1874 front free endpaper; the owner's small neat signature appears again on the title page. Touch of wear at the spine extremities and faint darkening to the spine strip. On the whole,quite a nice example.
