With reproductions of original illustrations, as appearing in the portions shown. "The writer desires to present a compilation of old gun catalogs in order to preserve them for study and research. These catalogs are seldom found in any of the larger libraries, and have practically disappeared from circulation". The author was a member of the the Michigan Gun Collectors Association, now the Michigan Antique Arms Collectors. Satterlee's passion was his research and authorship on guns and gunsmiths. Among some of his works are A Catalog of Firearms for the Collector, Ten Old Gun Catalogs for the Collector, American Gun Makers, and Fourteen Old Gun Catalogs for the Collector. He spent a lot of his time traveling the United States in pursuit of his research. The original edition of Volume One is quite scarce.
