Handsomely bound in finely woven navy blue cloth stamped brightly in gold on the front boards and on the spine. Clean and tight throughout with blue topstaining. In a very good, complete dustjacket with the original price of $6.95 at the top of the inside front flap and the date of "11/58" at the bottom of the flap. Light rubbing to the top and bottom of the spine ends at at the corners. The rear panel features a photo of a reflective John O'Hara. From the Terrace is a 1960 American drama film directed by Mark Robson and starring Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Myrna Loy, Barbara Eden, Ina Balin, and Leon Ames.The screenplay was written by Ernest Lehman based on the 1958 novel by John O'Hara that tells the story of a the estranged son of a Pennsylvania factory owner who marries into a prestigious family and moves to New York to seek his fortune. (Wikipedia) This copy has been inscribed in blue ink and presented: "To Joe Outerbridge- In case of attack put on the lead cover and drop over the side. All the best John O'Hara 18 Nov 58." Joe Outerbridge, Jr., was in the Navy. He was the son of Joseph W. ('Pat') Outerbridge of Princeton, NJ. "Pat" Outerbridge was a very close friend and drinking companion of O'Hara who gave him many signed copies of his books over the years. The books are from the collection of Pat Outerbridge's surviving son David. Quoting from Pamela Mac Arthur's book "The Genteel John O'Hara" about O'Hara's relationship with Joseph 'Pat' Outerbridge: "O'Hara's companionship with Sister (his sister-in-law Winnie Gardiner who later became his wife) ended his long nights with his best friend, Pat Outerbridge. Those nights began at eleven o clock in the evening and terminated at three o clock in the morning. Now, he could resume his late night cycle of writing."
