Item description from seller

A first edition of this scarce collection of advisory letters from British politician Robinson Souttar. First edition. Very scarce work. With a portrait frontispiece. Written as a collection of letters addressed to a young man, this work contains a selection of advice focusing on Christian life. With chapters titled as questions, such as: What is Religion?, What is a Christian?, and Can My Sins be Pardoned?, amongst others. Written by Robinson Souttar, a British Liberal Party politician noted as an advocate for peace during the Boer War. Edited by his daughter, Florence M. Souttar. Dated from the British Library. Bound in full calf with gilt. Externally, sound with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd mark to the boards. Fading to the spine and board edges. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. School prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good.
