Two brothers follow up their best-selling The Motley Fool Investment Guide (1996) with a more basic guide to saving and investing. While their earlier work considered topics such as the Dow dividend strategy, selling short, and small-cap growth stocks, the Gardners now preach the simple message that putting long-term savings into the stock market is ultimately the most rewarding and safest way to prepare for one's financial future. Just now discount broker Charles Schwab is making the same pitch with his own Guide to Financial Independence, but the Gardners and Schwab will appeal to widely different audiences. The Gardners are hip and irreverent, and their tips on how to get started investing and how to choose stocks target a new generation of investors. Not only is their advice helpful, but their frequent asides are wildly entertaining.
