Item description from seller

In the early 1800's three cultural groups were laying claim to the lands in the Alamosa River Canyon area of New Mexico - the whites (settlers and miners), the Mexicans and the Apache. A HOT mixture to be sure ! ! Patrocinio and his brother Senon Martinez were born in this area in 1873. Apart from running the family ranch, Patrocinio also was part time sherrif and mail carrier. These 143 pages tell his story and that of his wife, brothers, and seven children. Illus. by b/w photos. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with silver or black lettering. Front cover illus. of ~Pat~ in a cameo b/w photo. Some wear at fore points, edges are chipped but VG, spine is VG+ . Colours bright, binding sound. Some yellowing to cover, minimal soiling. No names, marks, tears, creases, nor stains. Almost giftable !! Quote (p. 56) : " Then he saw what was happening . John Taylor, the tall black man, had decided to rescue the horse. His muscles rippled like the waves of the river as he swung a rope and looped it over the neck of the floundering animal. Then the weight of the horse plus the river current pulled ._._._. ." Size: 8vo.
