1st Edition, 1st Printing. Part of Harrap's "Life, Literature, & Thought Library." Thomas P. Roche's copy with his name and date (22 June 1956) on the front past down. Roche was a professor, writer and foremost expert on Spenser and Renaissance poetry. This is technically also the first US Edition. Barnes & Noble, Inc., importers of British humanities books, has stamped on the title page: U.S.A. Publishers/Barnes & Noble, Inc./105 5th Ave. New York 3, N.Y. Where typically they will incorporate their printing and publishing information on the copyright page, and add their imprint to the spine and dust jacket; here they have kept the original British book and binding, but added their imprint to the spine of the dust jacket.
