With original watercolor drawing frontispiece to each volume and each illustrated throughout with exquisite pen and ink drawings of hunting scenes, equipment, prey and scenery. With a folding lithographic map of the New York and Ontario Western Railway at the front of "Fur and Feather". Original hand-made cloth bindings each front cover decorated with original pen and ink drawings and titles. Three of the five quires of "Traps and Snares" disbound. A charming set of outdoor sporting manuals set mainly in New York State and Canada, perhaps written by a father for his son, as a number of the humorous and informative sketches feature such a scenario. In short space, Pritchard gives detailed descriptions on all aspects of 19th-Century hunting, shooting, fishing, skiing, camping, and outdoor survival. We learn everything from how to make a tent, a canoe, and snowshoes. He also tells how to set all kinds of traps, how to catch various types of fish, how to work a rifle, and hints on hunting everything from snipe to buffalo. One has the impression upon leafing the pages that Pritchard was no slouch of an outdoorsman himself. The practical information is concise and direct and his illustrations (there are over 60) combine an artistic beauty and graphic realism that makes them irresistible and informative.
