In Derleth's introductory note, he says these may be the last Solar Pons stories he would write. That planned pause didn't last very long and these stories were republished in The Return of Solar Pons in 1958 along with other new installments in this Sherlock Holmes pastiche series. 996 copies (although the colophon says 2000). Joshi, Eighty Years of Arkham House, M&M 4. Jaffrey, The Arkham House Companion, 44. First edition (first and only printing). A fine copy in a very near fine dust jacket with a bit of tanning to the white spine lettering and along the top edge of the rear jacket panel. With the Lovecraft-inspired letterpress bookplate of the James Strand estate on the front pastedown. This copy came from the important Arkham House collection assembled by James Strand of Portland, Oregon. After his death, in August 2023, his house was looted and most of his books were stolen. Some were subsequently recovered by the FBI. This book was among those not taken by thieves.
