"Fabric and paper. Two ancestral materials derived from the same substances: mulberry leaf and bark, cotton, linen, hemp. In the West, texts and images have circulated indifferently on fabric and paper, from the first woodblock printing to the Indian prints that made the fortune of the printers of Jouy-en-Josas, and to the many inscriptions that have invaded contemporary fashion. The motif circulates from the printed image to the fabric, the letter sometimes becomes a motif, the page of the book in turn forms figures that evoke embroidery, the very structure of the text calls to mind that of weaving. I sell uncommon art catalogs, academic monographs, and prints, as well as rare ephemera such as posters and zines. I ship from Brooklyn, New York. I am an alum of the Rare Book School and the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar, as well as Indiana University and the Ohio State University. I started in the trade at the Wexner Center for the Arts bookstore, and I have previously worked for the Columbus Metropolitan Library, the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Prints and Drawings, and the Indiana University Art Museum's center for Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. More recently, I was the rare book cataloger at Donald Heald Rare Books, for whom I worked the ABAA's New York International Antiquarian Book Fair.…

James Payne, Books and Prints uses USPS media mail and ships within two days excluding extraordinary circumstances. I will ship to anywhere in the world that the numerous US embargoes do not forbid, however, if the real international shipping cost is in great variance to that listed, additional shipping may need to be charged. If purchasing from a prison, please indicate the specific rules for shipping books to the institution. I enclose ordered books in waterproof mylar and protect books with cardboard and sufficient packaging.
