First edition (1894) of the second (and more scarce) of Newell's Topsys and Turvys books, which are picture books in which a riddle or incomplete statement is posed below the picture, with the book then turned upside down to reveal a creative response, with the picture depicting something entirely different. Pictorial hardcover, 70 pages. This is a well-used copy that has very worn edges, surface soil, spine covering almost gone, the first forty and final pages detached (the pages have broken off near the inner margin, leaving little stubs, rather than falling out intact), numerous tiny edge chips and tears (none affecting the printed area), some fairly light occasional finger soil, one leaf (pages 11 and 12) absent.
