Item description from seller

First UK edition. Book's contents pages in excellent clean condition, unmarked and tight. Slightly foxed around edges. Old bookshop sticker opposite title page. No dust jacket. Dark blue board cover has marks and faded spine with gilt lettering. A study of humankind's duality/binary nature, and the need to reconcile and balance ourselves through the synthesis of masculine and feminine. The term 'personality' is used in its broadest sense to refer to the totality of 'man's' psychological, emotional and intellectual life. Gooch references legend, mythology, literature, science, history and physiology to develop this thesis - still of considerable relevance today.
