About this Item
Two volume set in fine bindings. Red full morocco with ornate gilt detailing to front and back covers, within the spine compartments and to the outer and inner board edges. Gilt to all faces of the page blocks, with the lower faces being exceptionally bright. Spines rubbed to the outer gutters and to the heads and tails of the spines. Small split to the upper section of the front cover of volume one. The odd minor spot to the covers. Bindings tight. Upper front corner of volume two slightly crushed. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers with the bookplate of Edmund Litler Johnson (designed by C.W. Sherborn). Illustrated title page followed by second title page (with this being a pasted title for volume one). Both volumes have six full page plates but with each one in duplicate and facing each other, mostly separated by a loose tissue guard (identical views). Some spotting to the plates and with minor spotting within the text, along with the odd finger marking. 329pp and 330pp. An attractive and handsome set.
