Trails for the Twenty-First Century: Planning, Design, and Management Manual for Multi-Use Trails

Across the land, a new kind of public space is appearing, linking neighborhoods to community and cultural resources, small towns to metropolitan areas, and city centers to countrysides. Thousands of miles of abandoned railroad corridors, former canals, and other unused transportation routes are being converted to trails that can accommodate a wide range of recreational and transportation uses, including walking, bicycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and nature appreciation.
Trails for the Twenty-first Century gives step-by-step guidance in all aspects of the planning, design, and management of multi-use trails. The information provided is drawn from the experiences of scores of trail managers and trail enthusiasts across the nation.
Trails for the Twenty-first Century is an essential resource for land-use planners, landscape architects, trail managers, transportation officials, and anyone interested in the development or management of multi-use trails.
