Plein veau de l'époque, dos lisse orné et doré. Un volume in-8 (190x120 mm), viii-351 pages et 6 planches hors texte dépliantes (sur 7). Reliure frottée, petit manque de cuir au second plat (et inscription manuscrite sur celui ci), coins légèrement émoussés, coiffe inférieure accidentée. Papier avec quelques rousseurs, une petite tache d'encre est venue percer le bas des premiers feuillets. Manque la planche de l'avoine charbonnée (p.336). Edition originale. Tessier (1741-1837), médecin et agronome français fut envoyé par Necker en 1777 en Sologne pour y étudier les épidémies d'ergotisme qui y sévissait depuis plusieurs années. Cette maladie due au développement de l'ergot (champignon) sur les épis de seigle y décimait les troupeaux et causait une gangrène sèche chez les paysans solognots. Tessier devient dès lors spécialiste de ces maladies et entre à l'Académie des Sciences. L'approvisionnement en grains (blé, orge, seigle, avoine.) est un problème stratégique de la fin du xviiième siècle en France qui connaitra notamment les famines de 1776, 1782, 1788. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________ENGLISH_DESCRIPTION : Contemporary full calf, gilt flat spine. 8vo (190x120 mm), viii-351 pages and 6 folding plates (sur 7). Binding rubbed, little los of leather on second cover (handwritten note on it), corners slightly bumped, tail cap worn. Few foxings, a little hole in the tail of the first leaves. The last plates is missing (p.336). First edition. Tessier (1741-1837), French doctor and agronomist was sent by Necker in 1777 to Sologne to study the epidemics of ergotism which had been raging there for several years. This disease due to the development of ergot (fungus) on the ears of rye decimated herds and caused dry gangrene in Solognot peasants. Tessier therefore became a specialist in these diseases and entered the Academy of Sciences. The supply of grains (wheat, barley, rye, oats .) is a strategic problem of the end of the 18th century in France which will experience in particular the famines of 1776, 1782, 1788. 420g.
