Rather than supporting the notion of competition, O'Sullivan argues that the process of learning should espouse a global understanding of Earth as a habitat of interdependent life forms.

In his exploration of the foundational levels of education, O'Sullivan incorporates scholarship from a variety of disciplines, including: anthropology, post-colonial studies, ecology, cosmology, political theory, feminist theory, media studies, chaos and morphic resonance theory, and the new physics.
