[Cross-Dressing][LGBTQ] Podolsky, Edward and Wade, Carlson. Transvestism Today: The Phenomena of Men Who Dress as Women. New York: Epic Publishing Co., 1960. First edition. 128 pages. Original blue binding with authors, title, and publisher stamped on spine in light blue. Original red, yellow, and black dustjacket with five black and white photographs of cross-dressers on cover. Podolsky and Wade open with a simple statement printed on the inside flap which reads "An individual who derives pleasure from wearing clothes of the opposite sex is called a 'transvestite.' When a man wear female clothing, complete with bloomers, brassiere, slip, and dress, he is scientifically called a transvestite. Today, transvestism is carried out by millions of men in secret because prohibitions set up in Biblical times are still in effect." Podolsky and Wade give brief overviews on different aspects of transvestism - it's practice as a fetish, as a masochistic display, and as a performance - and compare transvestism to transsexuality, a permanent transition in gender identity. The book closes with several essays by tranvestites including "Why I, a Man, Must Wear Dresses" by M.L.B. and "Bloomers are My Life" by Flossie. In overall very good condition. A 1960 book which attempts to understand and explain the practice of cross-dressing, including essays by self-professed transvestites. Seller Inventory # 20855
