Viii+264 pages and the advert leaf at rear, part 1 only but complete with own index, advertisement leaf after title, with 7 double page pieces of music for 1,2, & 3 voices. The work contains advice for apparel, companions, servants, health, feet preservation, How to eat and drink, Medicine chests, sending packages, beds, defence, expenses, stage coach and inn costs, town and country traditions, contraband luggage, Hints for ALPINE Tourists! Letters of credit, directions for making Warm-Heart (a cocktail to revive the spirits), Hobgoblin dramas of Germany, etc & then the music for the traveller, passages on music and toasts of our country set to music! Original paper boards and paper spine, worn and handled, pages uncut and all hand made rag paper used, a few pages with some light foxing, but all tight very good internally, the spine has some loss at top edge and corners worn, however this is an unsophisticated copy with no restoration, so despite the wear a VG copy overall. Small octavo. 1827. *Author wrote "The Cook's Oracle" in 1822 and this book is apparently "a very amusing read and better than a novel". The 2nd part by John Jervis a coachman deals with the management of coaches and horses in the main, so this does handle as a complete single volume. NOTE** The author has the fine distinction of creating or inventing "the potato chip" (For Americans French Fries) and was a most congenial host and friend also an inventor of optical instruments a an aside, well regarded both here and in the USA in the 19th century.
