In his introduction J R R Tolkien says that this is the first edition of : On Fairy Stories' and Leaf by Niggle being published together. One is an essay and one is a story but they are related by the symbols of Tree and Leaf. The essay was originally composed as an Andrew Lang lecture to the University of St Andrews in 1940. The story was first published in 1947. 92pp 18.5cm x 12cm It is a perfect binding book but it is complete and holding together and text Very Good. The cover which has attached glassine cover is browned but complete. Overall an acceptable copy of a book a little harder to find.
