Grove Press, New York, New York, USA, 1961. "Second [2nd] Printing" (stated) of the First (1st) American Edition. The novel was previously published in Paris in 1934, then banned in the USA, and courageously published in 1961 by Grove Press, leading to an obscenity trial in Pennsylvania and ultimately the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1964 allowing publication and changing in the law of obscenity. Fine in a Near Fine+ Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square, with no markings of any kind. The Binding is black quarter cloth to dappled dark blue boards, with the author's name in bright silver to the front board, bright silver title, etc., to the spine, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, and intact with the original price ($10.95) intact on both flaps, with very light wear to the head and heel of the spine and a small scratch to the spine.
