About this Item

From a Shorthand Report Unrevised by the Lecturer of 11 presentations given at Torquay, a seaside town in Devon, England, in August of 1924. Navy textured coated cloth (or possibly leather) boards, dark green leather spine wrap with gilt spine titles, some cover, corner, edge wear, rub, fleck. Front board with large blind-stamped impression: "Bethnal Green Public Libraries." Few stamps throughout, labels inside cover for the Metropolitan Borough of same and also Battersea. Intriguing tipped-in slip from J. Radcliffe of Borough Libraries in deep red with rather demanding message of care and penalty thereof, for lended items returned in lesser condition and not reported on. Pinkish-red marbled endpapers. Pages generally good with toning, aging, edge wear, mended closed tears. Some light neat pencilled marginalia, bracketing, underscore, varying throughout. Bind intact, square. Solid and well worn, read, and apparently loved example of this rarity. Contents: "Foreword by Marie Steiner; Synopsis of Lectures; Lecture 1. Introductory; Lecture 2. Historical and Spiritual Aspects of Consciousness; Lecture 3. Life After Death. Consciousness in its Relation to the Mineral Kingdom; Lecture 4. Ancient and Modern Concepts of Nature; 5. The Ascent into Higher Worlds; 6. Ordinary Consciousness and Initiate Consciousness; 7. Spiritual Influences in Earthly Affairs; 8. Mediumship; 9. The Initiate, The Dream, and The Medium; Lecture 10. The Spiritual Sun and Cosmic Man; Lecture 11. The Attainment of Knowledge of the Christ." From Editorial Note: "These lectures published in book form as it was one of Doctor Steiner's last wishes that his lectures - hitherto restricted to members - should become public property. It should be noted they have been translated from a very difficult form of German and lack the extempore speech and were uncorrected by Steiner. With the Penmaenmawr set of lectures they form, the consummation of his life work should be read with his earlier works to derive full benefit. We are greatly indebted to Frau Doctor Steiner for her kind permission to publishe these in English. They are a precious memento of those happy occasions when she was able to visit with her husband." Printed in Great Britain by Lawrence Bros. (Weston-super-Mare), Ltd., 58 High Street, Somerset. 224 pages. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall. Seller Inventory # 022186
