A scarce biography of the highly political archbishop of St Andrews. The first edition of this work. James Sharp was the archbishop of St Andrews from 1661. He was influential in both church and state. He strongly supported Episcopalianism which brought him into great conflict with elements of the kirk who advocated Presbyterianism. He survived one assassination attempt before a second cost him his life. Title page has been repaired at the bottom margin, where there has been some loss affecting the publication date. However, this work has been dated 1723 from copac and ESTC. With the signatures: a-g4, h2, D-T4, U3. D2 is misnamed Aa. Pagination for the main text starts at 25 (Sig. D) as called for. Symson also wrote a work on the name Stewart, and of the Stewart Dynasty. A smart copy of this rare work. In a half calf binding.
