The first edition of this very scarce work.A detailed work exploring the case of Joseph Rawson, detailing this excommunication by the congregation of Protestant dissenters, in 1736. The author, James Sloss, was minister at Castle Gate, and he became suspicious of Rawson and suspected him of embracing Arminian heresy. After questioning Rawson, Sloss excommunicated him.In this work, Sloss defends his power to excommunicate Sloss, and explains why he did so.An interesting work on church discipline.Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.Register runs as [1], B-J4, K3.One page of adverts to the rear. Rebound in a quarter cloth binding with marbled paper to the boards, with renewed endpapers. Externally, smart. A few small marks to the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots and handling marks. Title page is edge worn, with a repair to the gutter, with further repairs to the gutters to various pages. Small chip and an ink inscription to the title page, with some discolouration and a tidemark. Institutional stamp to the verso of the title page, and to page 1. Discolouration to the final few pages. Very Good.
