Folio. Pp.254. Baltazar Jaime Martinez Companon (1737-1797) Bishop of Trujillo in Peru, sent nine volumes, containing over 1400 naive watercolors of the native peoples and the natural history of Peru, to the King of Spain, who deposited them in the Royal Library. In this book are 120 full-page plates, 64 showing the people, and 56 showing birds, taken from these volumes. Spanish, Mestizo, and Quadroons and Indians are shown farming, cooking, building, processing cloth, hunting, fishing, playing ball games. dancing, etc. Among the birds are a bat and a bug. A few small spots from the tape holding the mylar jacket, else a fine copy, with a fine pictorial dust jacket. A magnificent book.
