First edition. Original leather boards are scuffed, creased, rubbed, especially at extremities. Flaking at spine although gilt banding and red spine label with gilt titling are largely intact. Front board is nearly entirely detached, holding at one cord. Binding otherwise intact. Internally, heavily foxed and age-toned with scattered soiling. Previous owner's label with name in ink, dated, 1840, to flyleaf facing title page. Also in pencil to flyleaf. Author's first name filled in at title page, though does not appear to be ex-libris. Chipping to edges of some pages, not interfering with text. Inlaid is a newspaper clipping, likely contemporary to previous owner, of the poem "The Jewish Pilgrim" cited "From the London Athenaeum" and on reverse, reportage from the Legislature of New York, dated Tuesday Jan. 30, "reported for the Albany Morning Express.".
