First edition. Octavo: [2], 78pp. Modern paper wrappers. Lacks the half-title, and last page creased. Very scarce. The 1760s saw a great increase in the numbers of individuals inoculated for smallpox. This mainly due to the innovations of the Sutton family, which made the procedure almost painless, safer, and more convenient. Daniel Sutton inoculated 22,000 people between 1763 and 1766 with only 3 deaths. This lead to attacks from the medical establishment and members of the Royal College of Physicians. This pamphlet in which the jury finds Sutton not guilty appears to be a spoof account of a fictional trial, no doubt written by a supporter of Sutton to defend him against his opponents.
