First Edition. We offer a group of twenty two different copies of the Boston Weekly Messenger ( a weekly newspaper ) from 1818. Each roughly 10 x 6 1/2 inches, string stitched, typically 16 pages, and folded as if for mailing. Several with the signature of Asahel Birge (?) in ink. Nothing obvious missing, although as normal with papers from this period the typography strength varies and there are in some cases difficulties reading at the fold lines. A nice grouping with the following issues: Vol 7: No 34, Thurs June 4, 1818 No 48, Thurs Sept 10, 1818 No 49, Thurs Sept 17, 1818 No 50, Thurs Sept 24, 1818 Vol 8: No 2, Thurs Oct 22, 1818 through No 12, Thurs Dec 31, 1818 inclusive (Nov 19, 1818 is damaged with some minor loss of text.) Vol 8: No 13, Thurs Jan 7, 1818 (incorrect, 1819) through No 18, Thurs Feb 11, 1818 (still incorrect!, 1819) inclusive No 20, Thurs Feb 25, 1818 (incorrect, 1819) The last group of Vol 8 are incorrectly identified as 1818 on the mastheads, with 1819 appearing internally for Meteorological Journals, etc. A total of twenty two issues.
