This is the language of the people of Jamaica, very akin to English, but definitely unique. Also known as "ungrammatical English", or Afro-Jamaican Patois. This simple seeming little book actually took eighteen years to come to fruition, partially due to the difficulty of coming up with a suitable and non awkward orthogaphic system for transcribing the patois. The author came up with a 10 vowel system, that turned out to be very similar to one previously devised for writing patois, clearly a successful solution, arrived at by more than one person with this goal in mind. It includes a childhood story by Dada Adams, in A version, using some standard English, and B version, with all phonetic spellings. Also includes a full grammar and many often used phrases. 109 pp.
