36-page pamphlet-style almanac; title continues: 'also, an abstract of the Act of Parliament for the Recovery of Tenements; List of Fairs, with a variety of useful Tables and other Important Matter'. Most of it is devoted to the railway timetables. Enclosed is a card issued by Thomas Moxon, of the Wolseley Arms (hotel), Wolseley Bridge, giving distances to London and Liverpool, to the towns en route, with inns and postmasters, where available. Also included is a traveller's handwritten memo of distances to other towns in the region. Presumably these were accessible only by coach or on horseback. The lot were found within a 19th century book purchased at auction many years ago, and I assume left there as a bookmark by a traveller en route. Curious fact: Bradshaw's timetalbe first appeared in 1839, combining the data from the local railway companies into one book, so presumably this little item predates Bradshaw. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
