1st Edition. 2p.l.,ix,[1],[3]-92pp. Octavo in tree calf boards with modern leather spine reback, marbled endpapers and red edges with 12 plates and 1 table (included in pagination). Edgewear to boards. good to very good Famous 18th century English shorthand book, published posthumously 4 years after the author's death. Byrom who was from a wealthy Manchester family began teaching his system in the 1720's and would later, through an act of Parliament, be granted the sole right of teaching and publishing his system for 21 years, after running into some difficulties in his proposal to publish his system by subscription in 1739.
