Add to basketNew York: Julian Messner, 1957. First Edition. Octavo (21.5cm); 256pp. Illustrated dust jacket with $3.95 price intact; boards in red cloth with black lettering to spine. Jacket rubbed and scuffed along edges with a small but mostly obscured tear to front panel and some general smudging, scuffing, and toning to surface; spots of dampstaining and toning mostly visible to verso along top edge and front flap fold. Boards bumped at corners and spine ends with a few faint hints of the jacket's staining. Spine very slightly cocked. A couple waterspots to textblock fore-edge near head. Opens easily between a couple gatherings, but binding is sound. Pages a touch toned but unmarked. Ness' memoir of his time as a Prohibition agent taking on Al Capone and other bootlegging gangs in Chicago in the 20s and 30s. Basis for the 1959 ABC television series starring Robert Stack and the 1987 Brian De Palma film starring Kevin Costner as Ness, Robert De Niro as Capone, and Sean Connery as Jim Malone in his Oscar-winning role.
