This edition is an illustrated monograph on the work of Victor Elpidiforovich Borisov-Musatov, a famous Russian artist of the XX century, prominent for his unique Post-Impressionistic style that mixed Symbolism, pure decorative style and realism. Together with Mikhail Vrubel he is often referred as the creator of Russian Symbolism style. The artist developed his own style of painting, combining the principles of plein air painting with general decorative solutions. The author of exquisitely decorative elegiac paintings, focused mainly on the harmony between a human and the nature ( May flowers , Agave , Tapestry , Hazel bush , etc.) had a great influence on works of Russian artists of the early XX century. The book consists of coloured illustrations on separate sheets and a list of artist s works. It has 11 reproductions in passe-partout, including frontispiece, 9 sheets of tone reproductions. Only 100 copies of current edition were printed on handmade paper inserted into a canvas binding. The most commonly sold copies have paper cover and thinner paper. The book is written by Nikolai Nikolayevich Wrangel, one of the most remarkable and sophisticated experts of Russian art, the son of Baron Nikolai Egorovich Wrangel, Doctor of Philosophy, and Maria Dmitrievna nee Dementieva-Maykova, the great-grandson of Abram Petrovich Gannibal, the blackamoor godson of Peter the Great. The book has stamps of the personal library of a member of the Union of Artists, artist S. V. Redkin. Restored spine, slight traces of moisture on several pages. Seller Inventory # 9
