The first edition of the Viking Portable Steinbeck. 1943 date on title page and "Published By The Viking Press in July 1943" on copyright page. Original tan cloth boards with front cover illustration of a man holding a shovel or hoe. All text edges with publisher's stain (slightly faded on top edge). Prior owner name on flyleaf else a fine copy for the Steinbeck collector. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
