Octavo, original textured black cloth titled and ruled in redon spine & front panel, front panel bordered in blind. Top page edges stained red. 360 pp. Some fading to red dye on top edges, a very good, bright copy, in the original pictorial dust jacket. The jacket has old chips and tears, some old tape repairs and is split along both the front spine fold and the front flap fold, it has a 1-inch deep chip missing from the bottom of the spine and a jagged chip affecting the title lettering at spine head, but it is at least 95% complete and - being a jacket from 1924 - could be considered rare. Richard Edward Enright (1871-1953) was an American law enforcement officer, detective, crime writer and served as NYPD Police Commissioner from 1918 until 1925; i.e, he was active during the early years of Prohibition. VULTURES OF THE DARK is his first book, a well-respected Crime Novel that was quite popular upon initial publication.
