First edition, first state. Front endpage has ownership signature of Richard Hodgson, who has noted the book as being "From the Author". (Please note that this is not in James' hand.) Hodgson was involved in psychical research and his work is mentioned on page 524 of the text. Rather worn copy overall, with library label to spine and bookplate to front pastedown. Front endpage with the inscription is lacking the bottom half. Front hinge has been repaired. Boards rubbed and heavily worn with some splitting and fraying to cloth (also repaired), and with chipping to paper title label. A nice association. Seller Inventory # 002527
