[RANDOLPH, Edmund]. A Vindication of Mr. Randolph's Resignation. Philadelphia: Printed by Samuel H. Smith, 1795. 1st ed. 1st issue. 8vo. 103, [1] pp. Disbound. Light foxing/toning. Small loss to the fore-edge margin of the last leaf, with loss of a few words, else very good. Evans 29384. Howes R-55. Howes notes, "The author had resigned from Washington's cabinet under fire, suspected of aiding French intrigue." It would come to light nearly a century later that those charges were unfounded. There are two states of this, the first, as here, without the "Extract of a letter from Mr. Randolph to the printer" on the errata leaf. The second state contains the extract on that leaf and several pages have been reset.
