Uncommon First Edition, First Printing of this detailed history of the iron industry in Antebullum Virginia. Labor performed by enslaved people was an integral component of the industry, a major instance of the relatively uncommon assignment of slaves to industrial settings. Cloth, 482 pages. Has a bit of rubbing a the edges of the spine. There's a 3-1-2" by 3" sticker that's a request for a book review from the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences on the front endpaper. The sticker contains a date stamp of June 15, 1931. On the copyright page, the publisher has stamped 1931 as the copyright date to replace the origianlly typeset 1930. Seller Inventory # 015498
