Wellsley-educated American author, best known for her first novel, the best-selling "Parrish," which was adapted into a 1961 film starring Troy Donahue as the title character as well as Claudette Colbert and Karl Malden. Her first work, The Lumberyard and Mrs. Barrie, was published in 1952, a largely autobiographical story detailing the events that occurred at her husband's lumberyard, and she used the pseudonym Jane Barrie. "In Vivo" follows a young, idealistic scientist named Tom Cable who steers the fiscally conservative Enright Drug and Chemical Company into dangerous financial waters by committing an increasing number of company resources to the research and development of a new broad-spectrum antibiotic. Her third and final novel was published in 2002, entitled "Cirie.".
