Benjamin Lebert ist schon ein seltsamer Vogel (in diesem Falle der Titel gebende Rabe, als der er sich, wie er in einem Interview verriet, gerne sieht). Jemand, der mit der MTV-Glitzerwelt, dem herrschenden Sex- und Funterror und den flauen Beauty-Begriffen nichts am Hut hat. So einer muss doch krank sein. Stimmt. Krank vor Sehnsucht. In einer immer oberflächlicher werdenden Welt schürft Lebert nach wahrer Liebe und echten Gefühlen. Genau das macht diesen jungen Autor in guten Momenten kostbar, in weniger geglückten klingt Lebert altersungemäß altklug und weise raunend.
Die bulimische Schönheit Christine, der fette Jens und der schon bekannte Henry, beziehungsgestört bis ins Mark, leben als perfekt ausbalanciertes Dreigestirn in einem fragilen Verhältnis gegenseitiger tiefer Zuneigung. An dem chancenlos in Christine verknallten Jens kristallisiert sich sehr bald Leberts Thema heraus. Ist Jens so fett, weil er zu wenig Liebe bekommt, oder bekommt er zu wenig Liebe, weil er so fett ist? Und -- ist die Liebe selbst hoffnungslos überbewertet und nur Sinnbild eines schnöden Scheins? Das Verhältnis zwischen den dreien kollabiert, als Henry mit Christine schläft -- und beide prompt von Jens erwischt werden. Der ewig Verschmähte schlägt zurück, die Katastrophe nimmt ihren Verlauf.
Als hätte er der erzählerischen Kraft der Dreiecksgeschichte nicht ganz getraut, klebt Lebert seiner Parabel über das unauflösbare Mysterium Liebe ein thrillerhaft unglaubwürdig wirkendes Ende an. Wie sich erweist, trägt nämlich auch der schweigsame Paul ein fürchterliches Geheimnis mit sich herum. Nur -- "ich bin eben kein Erzähler wie du" -- Pauls an Henry gerichtete letzte Worte im Roman. Auch Benjamin Lebert ist es vielleicht noch nicht ganz. Aber er ist verdammt nahe dran. --Ravi Unger
