Presumed first edition ,presumed first printing of a very good hardcover with wear to the extremities, pages toned and the front endpapers have split from the binding, with no dustjacket. P.I. Montague Shirley investigates a "series of inexplicable murders, all following warnings by a mysterious voice over the telephone". The basis for a box-office blockbuster, 15 part silent serial made in 1917 starring Ben Wilson and Neva Gerber, and is presumed lost. I would have loved to have seen it. Seller Inventory # 122
