About this Item
Marbled wrappers, printed paper label. Corner of lower cover slightly creased. Edition limited to 125 numbered copies, of which this is one of 20 specially bound on Arches paper. Radio talk delivered on 4 May 1947. "When I first came to Dublin as a young man I went, I remember, to a literary party where I scarcely knew anybody and was almost sick with fright. Mrs Yeats, the poet's wife, signalled to me to come and sit with her. 'I saw you were shy', she said, 'because you ran your hand through your hair exactly as Willie does'. After that I was never again at a loss with Yeats. A shy man has a sort of secret understanding with any other shy man whom he knows to be shy; and by watching what he did with his hand I could usually tell whether or not to take him seriously. When an Englishman gets shy he shuts up; an Irishman goes on talking. Hence the misunderstandings.". Seller Inventory # 31M100394
