Synopsis
Book by Library of Congress
Reviews
Collins (a regular reviewer for LJ) supervised the identification, cataloging, and preservation of some 750,000 photographs held by the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress, dealing with Washington, D.C., since 1846. This index to the photographs is intended for planning research strategies before visiting the Division. Each collection is described, and when applicable or known, the description includes collection name, lot (shelf) number, subjects, date, photographers, format, arrangement, source, related holdings, and restrictions. The 500 choice photos, sturdy binding, and alkaline paper make this a bargain. Indexed by subject and lot number, with a unique scope that makes it essential for Washingtoniana research.
