About this Item
4to. (31 cm.) [2]1-52[2]p. Profusely (!!) illustrated with full-color drawings, including a double-page color drawing of the Grand Canyon at the center of the book, most bearing the name "Chris Marie Meeker", but others, including the image of the Grand Canyon, bears the name "A. Malrose". Stiff color pictorial wrappers with a vignette of albatrosses flying over the ocean with a mountain in the background on the front cover and a vignette of a ship sailing over the ocean beneath a rainbow on the rear cover and with the whole bound with a gold cord. Just a few minor dings around the edges, colors throughout bright, wrappers clean and bright, corners square and flat, binding cord intact and brightly colored, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Endpapers show a series of water forms (ice, snowflake, icicle, etc.) set against a black background on one side and several angelfish swimming through an aquarium on the other side. "Of all the wonders of Nature, water is by far the most wonderful. Water literally is the 'main-spring' of all life. EVERY living thing, with rare exceptions, is dependent upon a constant and never failing supply of water, or it quickly passes out of existence. Water is the biggest single subject of all creation. Yet how much do you and I really know about it?" (from the first page) This booklet answer the questions about water, describing every form of water from dew to icebergs. It is also a promotional booklet that discusses water and the waterproofing benefits of asphalt-based paints and coatings and is illustrated with watercolors by A. Malrose and Chris Marie Meeker. Born in France in 1898, Chris Marie Meeker was active and lived in California and in France. She was known for watercolor and ink painting, street scenes, and illustrations. Her work also appears under the alternate names Christiane Arnaut, or Christiane Marie Arnaut Meeker. I have not been able to find information about A. Malrose. Just a sumptuously illustrated booklet!. Seller Inventory # 009165
