FIRST EDITION 1961, a collection of new drawings after extensive travels abroad: Europe, America, plus the Anglo-Saxons at home and abroad. 4to, 285 x 220 mm, 11 x 8½ inches, black cloth, gilt vignette, gilt lettered spine, 128 pages. 122 pages of drawings, most full page, some double, brief captions by Searle. Gilt bright, no inscriptions, just slightly rubbed at head and tail of spine and corners, top corner of lower cover slightly bumped, contents clean and crisp. A very good plus copy in very good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: not price clipped, slightly worn with tiny chips at head and tail of spine and corners, spine edges very slightly rubbed, small light splash to upper panel near top edge, 5 tiny closed edge tears, maximum 10 mm (½"), very small ink name and date 1961 on front inner flap). Schutzumschlag mit Randläsuren. - Ronald Searle (eigentlich: Ronald William Fordham Searle * 3. März 1920 in Cambridge; 30. Dezember 2011 in Draguignan, Frankreich[1]) war ein britischer Zeichner und Karikaturist. . Viele seiner Zeichnungen, die er auf den Reisen anfertigte, erschienen auch in Buchform, wie A Paris Sketchbook. Zu seinen bekanntesten Arbeiten zählen die Geschichten über das fiktive Mädcheninternat St. Trinian's. Erste Zeichnungen entstanden 1941; 1948 erschien das erste von mehreren Büchern über St. Trinian's. Die Geschichten des Internats wurden mehrfach verfilmt, zunächst ab 1954 von Frank Launder und Sidney Gilliat mit Alastair Sim in der Hauptrolle. 2007 erschien mit Die Girls von St. Trinian eine Neuverfilmung, die im Vereinigten Königreich zu einem großen Publikumserfolg wurde. Searles Werke sind in vielen Zeitschriften und Magazinen erschienen, wie bei Life, New York Times und Le Monde und haben auch andere Künstler beeinflusst. Im Verlauf seiner Schaffensperiode hat sich Searle auch mit Malerei, Münzentwürfen und Trickfilmen beschäftigt, so sind z. B. die Trickfilmsequenzen für den Spielfilm Die tollkühnen Männer in ihren fliegenden Kisten aus seiner Feder. Seinen künstlerischen Vorlass hatte Searle bereits 2010 an die Stiftung Niedersachsen verkauft; die rund 2000 Zeichnungen befinden sich im Hannoveraner Wilhelm-Busch-Museum als Dauerleihgabe.[3] .
