About this Item
AS PICTURED : FIVE IMAGES - FIRST EDITION, First Impression, 1912. 8vo; dark blue cloth gilt. Pastedowns and eps with traces of labels having been neatly and entirely removed, and discreetly blacked out patches to spine, indicate former existence in a library. There are no other signs of this, in fact it is a particularly sound, square, clean copy, free from any markings or inscriptions. Beyond a few small spots to prelims, it is mercifully foxing -free. Top edge gilt, otherwise pages block untrimmed. 242pp + 6pp ads, including volumes uniform with this edition (Synge, Swinburne, Gissing, Ibsen &etc). Laid paper. Clean and sound externally, with little evidence of wear; spine with very minor dents top and tail, gilt faded to blind-stamped appearance. Front board gilt title/ decoration/ edge ruling still bright and clear. (please see pics). CONTENTS : Introductory; Early Poems and Prose; Interlude; Narrative Poems; Love is Enough and Sigurd the Volsung; Translations and Socialism; Prose Romances and Poems By The Way; Conclusion. A fascinating insight into a contemporary view of Morris, now principally known for his design work. Drinkwater writes : " Painting, indeed he left, save for incidental purposes, but the scope of his practice widened with every year. And instead of becoming, as would seem to have been inevitable, an accomplished amateur, he became a master in everything he touched." A tidy copy, now Scarce as First G.B. Edition. FREE P&P IN UK. Non-UK customers quoted Shipping cost to agree before purchasing. (25% proceeds to the Motor Neurone Disease Association). Seller Inventory # 1656
