Item description from seller

This is a vintage children's papercraft activity book titled Windmill Cut-Out: A Working Model of an Authentic Post Mill. Circa 1947. It was created by Edwyn A. Birks under the "Birks Cut-Out" brand, and published in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, UK. It features a set of un-cut card sheets. When cut out and assembled according to the instructions on the back cover, it creates a fully 3D "true working model" of a traditional post mill, complete with moving parts. it also contains an extra loosely inserted instruction sheet. This publication dates back to circa 1947. While the book itself does not carry a prominent printed publication date, copies of the Birks cut-out series were formally lodged with the British Library in 1947, and the corresponding mechanical patents for the working paper model design were filed around 1948. This copy features an old W.H. Smith Vintage Price Sticker: It shows a post-WWII price reduction markdown from 3 shillings and 6 pence (3/6) down to 1 shilling (1/-). Papercraft books from this era were almost always cut up, destroyed, or lost to time, finding an entirely un-cut example is very rare. The book measures just over 12 inches tall and apart from some creasing wear is in very good general unused condition.…
