About this Item
Pale green boards with black titles.Dust wrapper is pictorial with a few chips to edges, clean and tidy, clipped,VG+.Block is sound and tight,no names etc.Full page colour illustrations on gloss paper with numerous sketches throughout text.Nice copy. The author's earlier collection, MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF MAORILAND, was awarded the Esther Glen medal for the best children's book written and produced in New Zealand in 1947. The present book takes the child right into the lives of a Maori boy and girl, so that everyday life in a Maori village in pre-pakeha days is cleary portrayed. Popo, the genial old Maori story-teller, then recounts some of his favourite age-old stories to his young friends. The artist, A S Paterson, brings life and colour into the stories and the many illustrations, whether in colour or black and white, will be treasured by every child. Seller Inventory # 000319
